Cole Porter’s Anything Goes coming to Follies

In exciting news, Milton Follies is able to announce their June 2019 Junior show, Cole Porter’s classic, Anything Goes. Lloyd McDonald, director of Joseph, The Little Mermaid and Seussical, is excited to be bringing this famous show to Milton Theatre, along with choreographer Ash Howes and musical director Ruth Myers.

“This is a great show with incredible opportunities for our local young performers. It’s a play with great comedic characters, so I’m looking for charismatic actors. It’s full of toe tapping songs like Anything Goes, I Get a Kick Out of You and You’re the Top, so my leading men and ladies are going to need to be strong singers.

Most importantly, this is a dancer’s show, so Ash is going to have her work cut out for her! Ideally, we’d love a core of 4-6 high quality dancers to feature in the high energy show-stopper numbers.”

There’s still a bit of administration and planning for Follies to get through, but expect audition information to be posted online towards the end of the year.

Calendar Girls rehearsals coming along nicely

There’s no rest for Follies, with Calendar Girls rehearsals now in full swing. The first few rehearsals were full of giggles as performers played Never Have I Ever and the Human Knot game in order to quickly establish relationships on which to build a bonded troupe.

Di Falloon is now spending time with the cast workshopping characters, before tackling perhaps the most daunting scene of the show – the nude calendar photo shoot.

With scores of props, multiple entrances and exits, piano playing, singing, as well as choreography for 6 unclothed women to protect their modesty, this scene has the potential to be the highlight of the play, or its biggest disaster! The show opens in November, with ticket sales available soon.

Joseph Reunion popular with Cast and Crew

Milton Follies held a mini Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat reunion on Saturday June 16th, with cast and crew of the successful November 2017 production reuniting at Mollymook Bowling Club to sing along to the Donny Osmond movie.

Local performers were in fine voice, with many reprising their roles for one last time. There were many laughs to be had, as the team relived missed cues, close calls and rapid costume changes, and absent members were fondly recalled.

At the end of the movie, it was unanimously agreed that our production had put the professional version to shame.
